Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre

Public Programme at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre:
"Former Whitfield Barracks after Adaptive Re-use" Guided Tours

Two of the remaining military buildings of Whitfield Barracks have been restored into the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre. The Kowloon Peninsula was ceded to the British in 1861. The British Army then built barracks for the training and housing of its soldiers. The building located at the existing site in the Kowloon Park was one of the barracks called Whitfield Barracks, which was named after Major General H.W. Whitfield, Major General China, Hong Kong and Straits Settlements. This tour aims at introducing the history and architectural features of the Centre to the participants, so that they can learn more about the changes of the Centre after restoration and the concept of adaptive re-use.
